Skinny

You guys are the BEST!

Thank you so much for all of your comments on my homemade signature ice cream! It is now a full-fledged favorite of mine — I just wish I had an excuse to make it every single day! Haha, I love this so much, no wonder it is taking forever for my skin to turn back to normal.

Last month Swanson Health Products sent me these products to review:

*They sent me these products free of charge. These are my opinions. I was not paid to review them.*

I really liked Swanson’s service. They were quick, easy, and had a very large variety of products. They also had a lot of the products I would normally buy, but at a better price.

With the Coconut Flour I made

My Banana Chocolate Brownies

and my Hawaiian Paradise Pizzert Babies! I really like the flavor that coconut flour adds to stuff when you bake with it! Oh my gosh I love this stuff! I am going to be very sad when I hit the bottom of this babe.

Then with the Wheat Bran I made

My Moist Molasses Bran Muffins! I’ve had Wheat Germ before, but never just Wheat Bran. I like it a lot. I’ve also been enjoying it in my oatmeal every morning. It has 6 grams of fiber per 1/4 cup and only 30 calories. It’s perfect to add some extra fiber to the things you bake! 🙂

For the Oat Bran I made

My Homemade Protein Chia Pancakes with frozen bluebs and maple syrup. I really really REALLY love oat bran! Oh my gosh, I think I may like it even more than oatmeal. Wait, did I just say that?!

The Raw Cacao Nibs were another one of my favorites!

I made My Cacao Pecan Pumpkin Ice Cream. They remind me of the Baker’s Chocolate, just in smaller pieces. They also have a kind of nutty flavor to them. I used them in my Protein Chia Pancakes that I had yesterday and they were delicious!

I have yet to try the TVP and the Muesli, but I know what I am going to do with them! With the TVP I am going to make Savannah’s Protein Hot Cereal, and with the Muesli, I am going to whip me up a batch of Katie’s Big Fat Vegan Greek Yogurt and mix the Muesli with it! 🙂 I can barely wait to try them both — I know they are going to be amazing! 😀

I received a copy of Skinny from Diana Spechler. She contacted me and asked me if I would like to review it for her.

*She sent it to me free of charge and these are my own opinions — I was not paid to say these things.*

Here’s what Skinny’s about:

After her father’s death, Gray Lachmann, a twenty-six year old young woman, finds herself compulsively eating. Desperate to stop bingeing, she abandons her life in New York City for a job at a southern weight-loss camp. There, caught among the warring egos of her devious co-counselor, Sheena; the self-aggrandizing camp director, Lewis; his attractive assistant, Bennett; and a throng of combative teenage campers, she is confronted by a captivating mystery that she may have a teenage half-sister, Eden, whom Gray never knew existed. Now, while unraveling her father’s lies, Gray must tackle her own self-deceptions and take control of her body and her life.

Skinny illuminates a young woman’s struggle to make sense of the link between hunger and emotion, and to make peace with her demons, her body, and herself. That was one part I really liked about this book — it’s about finding that balance with herself. But one thing I did not like is that it has some mature content (sex) in it. I don’t like reading books with that in them, so I want to let those who don’t like to either know. Other than that, it’s a good book!

And that’s the Skinny of it!

Any tips of how to eat healthy at Olive Garden? I’m heading to Olive Garden this evening for the first time! I know that eating healthy there can be a challenge though.

Do you want the Protein Chia Pancake Recipe? If you want it, I can share it.

Any thoughts on how to stay cool when your air conditioner decides to stop working? My house is turning into a sauna. At least I have an excuse to make a lot of this. 😉

  1. I have heard a lot about that book, all the reviews were pretty positive, I may read it too, since I am currently looking for some good books to read 🙂
I love wheat bran, wheat germ, oat bran..probably al the oats and wheat variations that exist. When I make my morning porridge, I always mix all of these together, so I get the benefits of all of them in one sitting 🙂
I think there is no reason to ask if we want the Protein Chia Pancake Recipe. You know we want it, don´t you? :))
For staying cool, I eat a lot of watermelon, pineapple, cucumbers and tomatoes – it cools your from the inside out 🙂

  2. Oh wow, everything you baked looks awesome!
I’ve always wanted to try cocoa nibs.

Oh gosh no air conditioning in the summer? my best advice would be, as little amout of clothing as possible when home, iced water by your side, a fan.. then move as little as possible and just lay on the couch and watch tv haha. no that last part I dont really recommend 😛

  3. Ooh I hope you like the yogurt!

Ugh, our air con stopped working the other day. House got to 90 degrees (on the thermostat). Something that helps is to drink ice-cold water… but maybe not late at night, and maybe not four glasses! I think I had to go to the bathroom like five times during the night!

    (Sorry, tmi? lol :))

  4. Yea, please share the recipe! Those pancakes sounds awesome!
I just finished the book I was reading, and Im looking for a new one to read! I think Skinny sounds great, Ill try to find it! Thanks for the review 🙂
Everything you make looks so good sweetie!
    Have a lovely Wednesday :**

  5. Order a pasta with WHOLE WHEAT noodles, and a side of steamed veggies that you can mix into the noodles! You could get it with some marinara sauce and ask for some beans or fish or something on the side.

  6. I love the texture and flavor of coconut flour, and I love that it has lots of fiber too! Oat bran > oatmeal in my opinion. If I have oatmeal, I usually do half oat bran and half oatmeal because I prefer the oatbran!

I’m pretty sure olive gardens nutritionals are online. They have some decent seafood and chicken dishes, and the soups look decent too (though I’m sure lots of sodium)

  7. I loooove the taste and texture of coconut flour, but I have a hard time working with it sometimes, and find I usually have to combine it with other flours. I tried making pancakes once using just coconut flour, and they turned out to be a gloopy mess. The things just would.not.cook no matter how long I left them on the skillet. And I agree that oat bran is amazing. Sometimes I mix it with oatmeal to get different textures, and it’s fantastic 🙂

  8. Ooh so many delicious looking treats!

And I haven’t heard of Skinny before, but you make me curious about it. I might see if our library has it tonight when I go. 🙂

  9. Sounds like an interesting book! I am adding it to my LONG list of “to read” books!

  10. You’re so lucky you get products to trial! We just got the full Bob’s Red Mill range at my work and I’ve been cooing over all the yummy flours and things to try out. Top of my list is Teff flour and the White Sorghum flour ooooooer!

  11. I’d love for you to post that chia pancake recipe! You always come up with the most unique recipes!
Also, this advice is prob late, but I always order either soup and salad (but ask to put the dressing on the side, its LOADED with fat and probably one of the worst things you can eat there!) and limit myself to one breadstick (because who can resist those altogether?) or I order the apricot chicken (it’s less than 400 calories i think).
